Task 2

Task 2 (Week 37 to 38  ) (w/c 13 April 2015 to w/c 20 April 2015)
Using the above information collected, produce some outline production ideas for your FMP.

Carry out extensive experimentation using a wide variety of materials and techniques to test the viability of your outline ideas.
You could try to produce work in the style of work you have researched and then expand this by experimenting with ways to push boundaries further. SEE WHAT WORKS, EXPERIMENT WITH WHAT MIGHT BE EFFECTIVE. GET YOUR TESTING DONE AT AN EARLY STAGE before producing detailed designs and committing yourself to something that may not work. Explore formal elements and experiment with a variety of media, materials and techniques. Ensure that you clearly state links between your exploration work and research previously carried out.

Idea Generation.

After researching into different styles of animation and artist I am liking the idea of an animated character coming into the real world to interact with the other characters. The idea came from researching into Who framed Roger Rabbit which was famous for animated character mixing with film. The animator Max Fleischer who was the creator of Betty Boop was the inventor of the Rotescope which is animating over live action filming which is a process I would like to use within my animation. I would also like to add a tattoo animation into my final major project.

EXPERIMENTATION

I attempted to put an animated Character into a real video however when using my final piece I need to use a stabilizer for the camera as I found it difficult to keep the character within frame without making it look strange. I also need to create a small animation to make it play over the top. I am also testing the puppet pin tool for breathing and easier animation which is working very well however it is difficult to use with an image that has over lapping limbs or hidden limbs. This will mean that my character will have to be simple yet effective to use this tool.

Task 1

Research

Task 1 (Week 37) (w/c 13 April 2015)
Research/ find (6) professional examples of work within the specialism you have selected to practice for your Final Major Project.
Analyse the work in terms of style, effectiveness and production.
Record this in workbook

Animation and Tattoos

For my idea I would like to mix Animation, real life and tattoos together so I have gathered different research from each specialism.
1.David Firth
David Firth is an independent animator who has had work featured on the BBC website and is very well known on YouTube for work such as Salad Fingers. He mainly uses Flash to create his animations, using the bone tool and drawing on Flash. He has also said that his ideas have come from dreams that he documented with a notebook next to his bedside. I like his style of animation and personally the creepiness adds to who he is. The art work behind the animations is very unique and I want to add my own style to my animations just like David Firth does. The issues raised in his animations are very creepy and may not make sense that just adds to the overall creation.

2.Oddboy
http://www.real-art.co.uk/
Oddboy is a tattoo artist in Leicester, England who is famous in the industry for his portrait tattoos, squigglism tattoos and his paintings. I personally love his artwork and I think he would be a great inspiration to my final major project. He believes in only the best and will not do anything less than his standard. His style of tattoo is unique and he does art on the side of his tattooing. I like his style of shading and colour which is bright and vibrant.

3.Kat Von D
http://www.katvond.net/_html/galleryTattoosP1.htm
Kat is a famous tattoo Artist who has her own TV show called L.A Ink. She has tattoo various famous people including Jeffree Star. She specialises in realistic tattoos and  her work is very well known throughout the world. The style of tattoo would be a nice feature to add to my animation. The way she shades her art is almost realistic and the black tattoos I think would suit my animation far more than coloured.

4. University Student (Ashleigh Higgins)

Upon searching for Animated tattoos I have come across a Uni student who has done something similar to my idea. I like her style and the movement is static but effective. She used Photoshop to create the stopmotion film which could be an idea for my own work. Hey style is fairly simple but looks good. I also like the fact that she made the images fly off the skin which might be a good idea to further my story of animation.

5. Max Fleischer (Betty Boop)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dNgezTJdEE
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Boop
Betty Boop is a famous character created by Max Fleischer in 1930, she was originally caricature of the singer Helen Kane and the character was created as an anthropomorphic French Poodle. It wasn't until 1932 was Betty Boop finalised as a human. She first featured in Dizzy Dishes and has been known ever since as a sex icon due to her womanly features. Betty Boop is regarded as one of the first and most famous sex symbols on the animated screen. she is a symbol of the Depression era, and a reminder of the more carefree days of Jazz Age flappers. Her popularity was drawn largely from adult audiences, and the cartoons, while seemingly surreal, contained many sexual and psychological elements. I like her simple design as it suits a tattoo design and would be a good inspiration for my animation. I like the thick black lines and how simplistic her design is. She was also featured in Who framed Roger Rabbit where she really came to life.

6.Who Framed Roger Rabbit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy5THitqPBw
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Framed_Roger_Rabbit
Who framed Roger rabbit is a 1988 live action film mixed with animation. I love this style as it makes the drawings seem more real. For my animation idea I would like to use the concept of animations coming to life and interacting with real people. I have used Jesscia Rabbit as my image as I like her style and the fact that she is human rather than animal. She also give the film a sex appeal which adds to the atmosphere and has been famous throughout the adult audiences. I like her womanly design and I think it will be effective in my Final piece as it will draw in male and adult audiences.
